Care

A few notes on keeping the pieces well.

Teaky pieces are built to last decades. Treated kindly, they age into themselves — the walnut warms, the silk deepens. A short note on what helps.

The wood

Solid walnut, finished by hand with an oil-and-wax rub. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Avoid prolonged contact with water — if a glass leaves a mark, dry it with a microfibre cloth in the same direction as the grain.

Every six months or so, a faint coat of furniture oil keeps the wood deep and the grain visible. Do not use silicone polishes.

The glass

3 mm tempered float glass. Clean with a soft cloth and any household glass cleaner; spray the cloth, not the piece. Do not soak the corners.

The textile beneath

The silk sits behind glass, away from light and dust. It does not need cleaning. If you ever need to lift the glass — for any reason — please write to us first; we will tell you how, and replace anything that needs replacing.

Coasters in daily use

The coasters are made for use. A glass with condensation on its base is exactly what they are for. The brocade may darken over years where the glass repeatedly sits — this is patina, not damage, and is part of how a Teaky coaster ages.
